Goodrich Quality Theaters will be showing “The LEGO Batman Movie” at 10 a.m. on Friday, Saturday and Sunday at the Randall 15 IMAX in Batavia and the Kendall 11 in Oswego. This is part of the Weekend Morning Movies Fall Series, and tickets are $1 (or free for FMG club members.)
Cantigny Park in Wheaton has a Family Night on Friday starting at 5:30 p.m., featuring a “Tree Hike” where your family will learn about some of the park’s biggest and coolest trees, followed by a campfire. You are invited to bring your own fixins’ for s’mores. This event is free with the regular $5 weekday parking fee.
The Big Truck Show in St. Charles will be held Saturday from 10 a.m. to noon in James O. Breen Community Park (where Hickory Knolls Nature Center and Otter Cove Aquatic Park are located.) It will feature tractors, cars and trucks with representatives on hand to offer “tours” and answer questions. This is a free event. Bring your camera!
The Geneva Park District’s annual Autumn Fair will be held at Peck Farm Park on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. There will be pony rides, a small petting zoo, hayrides, crafts, games, a birds of prey presentation and more. Admission to the Autumn Fair is free, but there will be activities that require a fee.
Knoch Knolls Nature Center in Naperville is hosting a free Monarch Festival (a Polinator Extravaganza!) on Sunday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Your family can learn how to create a pollinator garden, get free milkweed seeds, play games and make crafts in the children’s area and more.
The Durant House in LeRoy Oakes Forest Preserve is hosting a “Fall Hearth Cooking Day” on Sunday from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.. The event will celebrate the fall harvest and feature hands-on demonstrations to show how foods were prepared that were an important part of pioneer cooking. The fee is $3 for adults, $1 for kids.
Cantigny Park has a Car Show on Sunday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. featuring vintage cars, entertainment and prizes. This event is free with the regular $10 weekend parking fee.
The North Aurora Mothers Club is presenting its 8th annual North Aurora Community Parade on Sunday afternoon. Here’s info about the route, which starts in the Blessed Sacrament parking lot at 801 Oak Street. The parade will end with a free after-party at Goodwin Park where there will bounce houses, pony rides, a petting zoo, Disney princesses, balloon entertainers and games for kids.
Lake Ellyn Park in Glen Ellyn will be lit up on Sunday night as part of the Glow in the Park Lantern Walk from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. This is a free event, although donations will benefit Lurie Children’s Hospital. Here’s lots more info on this unique event.
The Shedd Aquarium in Chicago is offering free general admission the rest of this month.
There are fall resales a’plenty on Saturday, although some don’t allow children.
