Fairs & Festivals
Various: If your family is up for a spur-of-the-moment road trip, the Illinois State Fair in Springfield continues through Sunday. Closer to home, you can take in the RiverFest Express in South Elgin (featuring fireworks on Saturday night) or Elburn Days in Elburn.

Movies in the Park
Various: You have a few chances to catch a movie outdoors this weekend. In St. Charles’ Lincoln Park, Goldfish Swim School is sponsoring a showing of “Finding Nemo” as well as offering crafts, games, giveaways and more. At Cantigny Park, you can catch “The Land Before Time” on Friday and show up early for a “Cruise Night” and performance by Joe Kalish. On Saturday, it will be Bollywood Night in Aurora’s Philips Park, sponsored by Aurora’s Indian American Community Outreach Advisory Board, featuring a popular Bollywood movie as well as live performances.

Kane County Cougars
Geneva: The Kane County Cougars have a long home-stand at Northwestern Medicine Field all the way through Thursday. On Friday and Saturday, they’ll take on the Burlington Bees at 6:30 p.m., and on Sunday, th eBees again at 1 p.m. The evening games feature fireworks after the games as well as other promotions (Hi-Infidelity will perform a pre-game concert on Saturday, for instance.)

Batavia: Bug Fest is the popular annual event organized by the Fox Valley Park District to celebrate our our 6-legged friends. Start your adventure Saturday morning at Lippold Park with fun bug games and insect encounters. Then travel the stroller-friendly Fox River Trail or explore the wood-chipped hiking trails to Red Oak Nature Center and bug-related activities.
Dates: Saturday, Aug. 19, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Event details here.
Cost: Free admission. Refreshments and products are available for purchase. Note that parking is available at Schneider Elementary School (304 Banbury Road, North Aurora), with free shuttle buses running regularly between those sites from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Concert at Cantigny
Wheaton: The children’s band Wendy and DB performs at noon Sunday at Cantigny Park, wrapping up the Kids’ Concerts series for the summer. The concert is free, but the $10 weekend parking fee applies. Bring your lawn chairs or blankets. These performance are held rain or shine, except in extreme weather.
