Family Fun Night

NAPERVILLE: Family Fun Friday Nights at the DuPage Children’s Museum are designed to give busy families the opportunity to take advantage of its extended hours on Fridays during the school year. The Museum is open until 8 p.m., and visitors can enjoy a full museum experience with the whole family, including a special activity or performance on most Friday nights. This week, the special event is “Math Nightt.”

Weekend Movies

BATAVIA AND OSWEGO: Goodrich Quality Theatres continues its “Weekend Morning Movies” series this week. The series runs through April 30. Each movie will be shown at 10 a.m. on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Ticket are $1 a person. “Ice Age: Collision Course” is the movie this weekend.

Earth Day & Recycling Extravaganza 

GLEN ELLYN: The Glen Ellyn Park District, the Glen Ellyn Library, the Village’s Environmental Commission and local businesses have scheduled a morning of activities celebrating Earth Day. The Annual Recycling Extravaganza will take place in the western half of the Duane/Lorraine parking lot from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 22. In the eastern half of the parking lot, local vendors and groups will showcase their services and goods, such as native plants and rain barrels. There will also be live acoustic music, food and drinks to purchase and your family can add your artistic touch to a mural that’s being created for the French Market. At 10 a.m., the library will offer a presentation on native plants, and at 11 a.m. a family storytime. From 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., children can make an Earth Day craft.

Earth Day Celebration

GENEVA: Peck Farm Park in Geneva will be the site for a free Earth Day celebration on Saturday, April 22, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. This event is put on by the city of Geneva’s Natural Resources Committee and the Geneva Park District. Activities will include children’s games, chair massages, bicycle tune-ups, free paper shredding, food and green vendors. US Again will accept old textiles (no rugs or carpet) and electronics recycling will be offered through the Kane County Recycling program. Rain barrels will be offered for sale, too.

Earth Day Tree Planting

SOUTH ELGIN: Come join Kane County Forest Preserve District staff and neighbors as they plant oak trees at Kenyon Farm Forest Preserve in South Elgin. You will simply place the tree in pre-dug holes. Tamp down the dirt. Water, then mulch. It’s easy! This is a perfect event for groups or individuals. All ages are welcome.

Date: Saturday, April 22. Be sure to arrive at 10 a.m. sharp. Trees will be planted until 1 p.m. or until they’re gone — whichever comes first! Bring work gloves, if you like. Event details here.

Party for the Planet

WHEATON: Cosley Zoo in Wheaton will be the site of a “Party for the Planet” on Saturday, April 22, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Environmentally friendly organizations and business will be onsite to educate your family about how little actions on our part can make a big difference in our community. Visit with your favorite Cosley Zoo animals, and be a part of the largest combined Earth Day celebration in North America along with visitors to over 100 other AZA-accredited zoos and aquariums.

Truck Show and More

BOLINGBROOK: As part of its celebrations for the Week of the Young Child, the Bolingbrook Park District is hosting a number of events Sunday, including a touch-a-truck show, trackless train, storytime, kids vendor fair, dance performances, face painting, jump houses and more at the Bolingbrook Recreation and Aquatic Complex.

Hug a Tree

LISLE: With Arbor Day coming soon, the Morton Arboretum is offering special craft activities in the Children’s Garden in April. Your kids can make “terrific tree masks” to take home – this is a self-guided activity. Before or after your stop at the Children’s Garden, your kids can play in “Nature’s Kitchen” near Parking Lots 20 or 21.
