Summer Guide: Outdoor Movies in Chicago’s Western Suburbs

If your family would like to catch a movie under the stars this summer, you plenty of chances to do so. And if you’re playing along with #GoWestSummer, it’s one of the squares! Here’s a guide divided by suburb, you’ll find these individually listed on the Go West Calendar as well. Please follow the links provided to gather more information. Don’t forget your blanket or chairs, some bug spray and of course a few movie snacks!


The Batavia Park District will show two movies this summer for free at the Riverwalk at dusk after the River Rhapsody Concert.  The movies will start at approximately 8:30 p.m. Here’s the lineup:

  • July 20 – Inside Out
  • August 3 – Field of Dreams



The Geneva Park District rotates its free movie series around several neighborhood parks. Movies will begin at dusk, approximately 8:30 p.m. Popcorn and refreshments will be available for purchase. Here’s the remaining lineup:

  • June 9 – Inside Out at Moore Park
  • July 7 – Jurassic World at Wheeler Park
  • August 4 – Goonies at Island Park

The “Flick ‘n’ Float Nights” at Geneva’s Sunset Pool let you float around on rafts while enjoying movies. Twilight rates will apply. Here’s the lineup:

  • June 17 – The SpongeBob Movie
  • July 15 – Minions
  • August 12 – Pan

The Mill Creek Pool will be hosting a Teen Movie Night. This runs from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. and the cost is $5, or $6 for non-residents.

  • July 29 – Hunger Games: Mocking Jay Part 2






The city of Aurora’s free “Movies in the Park” series takes place in Phillips Park and will feature pre-event activities at 8 p.m. The movies will start 30 minutes after sunset, usually between 9 and 9:15 p.m. Movies will be shown on the big screen adjacent to the sledding hill and the skate/BMX park. The concession stand will be open, and parking is available at the Phillips Park Aquatic Center, 828 Montgomery Road. Here’s the schedule:

  • July 9 – The Peanuts Movie
  • July 23 – Minions
  • August 6 – The Good Dinosaur
  • August 20 – Zootopia


The City of Elgin will be showing Movies in the Park for free in Festival Park. Before the movie kids can enjoy activities based on the movie theme, refreshments sold by local not-for-profits and enjoy $2 train rides on the Elgin Express. Pre-show activities start at 7 p.m. The movies will begin at sunset. The lineup is as follows:

  • July 14 – Back to the Future
  • July 21 – The Good Dinosaur
  • July 28 – Snow White
  • August 2 – Star Wars: The Force Awakens
  • August 9 – Finding Nemo



St. Charles
Otter Cove Aquatic Park is hosting a Flick-n-Float night where you can enjoy a movie on the big screen while floating around the pool. Limited number of water noodles provided. No rafts. Daily admission fees apply. There will be games with prizes at 7:30 and the movie begins at 8:45.

The Koehler Family YMCA is hosting a free movie night for the public in Central Park. The events run from 7:30-10pm. Here’s the lineup:

  • June 24 – Star Wars: The Force Awakens
  • July 8 – Max
  • August 12 – The Good Dinosaur
  • September 2 – Hotel Transylvania 2



The Oswego Park District is hosting Flick and Float at the Winrock Pool in Montgomery at 8:30 p.m. Popcorn and soft drink are included, $5 for season pass holders, $8 daily admission Here’s the lineup:

The Lisle Park District and the Kiwanis Club of Lisle are sponsoring free movies at different parks in Lisle throughout the summer at 8:30 p.m. Bring your own lawn chair, blankets, and picnic baskets.

  • August 2 – Superman
  • August 9 – Toy Story


Oakbrook Center is hosting free, family-friendly movie nights on Wednesdays throughout August in the center’s newly renovated Village Green lawn. Movies will be shown on a newly installed, state-of-the-art 32’ x 18’ digital LED screen. Guests can bring blankets, no chairs are allowed. Movies will be shown at 7 p.m. Here’s the lineup:

  • June 29 – Minions
  • July 6 – Hotel Transylvania 2
  • July 13 – Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
  • July 20 – Inside Out
  • July 27 – The Good Dinosaur

Cantigny in Wheaton will movies outdoors this summer with movies beginning at dusk, approximately 8:30 p.m. This is a free event, but the $2 parking fee applies. The lineup is:

  • July 1 – National Treasure
  • July 8 – Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom
  • July 15 – Smokey and the Bandit

  • August 26 – E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial



Glen Ellyn

Select Wednesdays the Glen Ellyn Park District is presenting Movies in the Park. These are free events and the park changes each night. All movies begin at dusk, approximately 8:15 p.m.

  • June 8: Shaun the Sheep Movie (PG) at Maryknoll Park
  • June 22: The Sandlot (PG) at Village Green Park
  • July 6: Minions (PG) at Lake Foxcroft Park
  • July 14: Mary Poppins. This movie is presented by the Glen Ellyn Park District and College of DuPage. The movie will begin at 8pm at the McAninch Arts Center – Lakeside Pavilion at the College of DuPage Campus.
  • July 27: Tomorrowland (PG) at Newton Park
  • August 10: The Peanuts Movie (G) at Lake Ellyn Park


The College of DuPage is hosting free movies at the Lakeside Pavilion. These free events begin at 8 p.m.
