If you have a special needs child in your life, the holidays most likely offer some extra challenges. Here are some Christmas and holiday events that are specially tailored for children with special needs. LOMBARD Yorktown Shopping Center is hosting two “Santa Cares” events. It is a sensory-friendly opportunity for children with special needs to enjoy the time-honored tradition of the Santa photo experience with their family in a calming environment at 9:00 a.m. prior to public mall hours. Register in advance here. One registration is required per group.

AURORA The Fox Valley Mall in Aurora is hosting a “Santa Cares” event on Sunday, November 26 from 8 – 10 a.m. This more soothing and sensory-friendly opportunity to visit and take photos with Santa will be available for children with autism and other special needs (and their siblings). December 1

 

AURORA Blackberry Farm will be hosting a Holiday Express Special Needs Night from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 1. Enjoy all the fun of Holiday Express in a low-sensory environment. No waiting in lines. Instead, guests will experience a setup that’s sensitive to families with special needs, with reduced lighting and music. Blackberry Farm is ADA compliant, but please note that the hay wagon in non-handicap accessible. Tickets are $5. Food and drinks will be available for purchase. ELMHURST Wilder Mansion in Elmhurt is taking part in Special Kids Day with visits with Santa available from 3:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 6. All ages with special needs, their siblings, and families are invited to this free event. There will be a chance to meet Santa for a photo and gift, face painting, and other fun and activities. WARRENVILLE Grace Church of DuPage is hosting a Special Needs Christmas Celebration on Saturday, December 9 from 2 – 4:30 p.m. The free event will include crafts, refreshments, and music. Visit gracedupage.org/events for more information.
