Did you realize this summer that the child you couldn’t imagine in the spring sending away to preschool is actually very ready for it? Or maybe you know a neighbor or friend brand new to the area who is searching for a great preschool program to enroll her child in this fall?
If so, I hope you’ll take a few minutes to learn more about the Creative Play Preschool offered by the Fox Valley Park District. The program gets underway the week of Sept. 5, and it does still have some spots available at its classrooms at the Eola Community Center on the east side of Aurora, as well as the Prisco Community Center, on the west side of the Fox River.
As its name suggests, this preschool is guided by the philosophy of learning through play, because play forms the foundation of cognitive, social, physical and emotional skills that pave the way for life-long learning. Children spend time both inside the classroom and outdoors, plus they get to use the community centers’ gymnasiums for gross motor play.
“Creative Play has the advantage of working closely with our community schools to truly prep kids for their entry into kindergarten,” says Deedee Buscher, the park district’s preschool coordinator. “We introduce cutting-edge concepts like STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts & Math) while incorporating fun and the everyday wonder of childhood into learning.”
Creative Play Preschool is available to children who are as young as 30 months by Sept. 1, 2017. That’s for the 2-year-old program. There is also a program for 3-year-old children, for 4-year-old children and a Pre-K program, too. Days and fees vary based on age – for instance, the 4-year-old students attend on Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings or afternoons; the Pre-K program is Monday through Friday, again either morning or afternoon. Each program focuses on developmentally appropriate practices that nurture each stage of a child’s preschool career.
To learn more about Creative Play Preschool, you can visit the website, call Deedee Buscher at 630-851-8990 or email her at firstname.lastname@example.org to schedule a tour. Registration must be done in-person at one of the park district’s community centers, and new registrants must provide a copy of their child’s birth certificate and proof of residency.
Buscher says she can’t wait to welcome the preschoolers into their classrooms next month. Plus, she gets to see many of her former students thrive as they grow through other Fox Valley Park District programs in areas like gymnastics, sports and dance.
“Being greeted at work with big hugs from children ranging in age from 2 ½ to high school students is truly a joy,” she says. “The sense of community that is felt by our staff, students, and families is heart-warming.”
